Our Mission
Have you ever experienced doubt? Have you ever questioned what you were taught? Have you ever wondered if there was anything more to what you believe? This blog exists to simply help you begin the process of exploring these questions by presenting you with a voice that is often unheard in the modern American church. It is a voice from the cold shivers of the New England Church, it is a voice from the minorities of the Church. It is a voice from the voiceless. Quite simply, it is a voice from the other side of the pew, a different perspective.
The Author
My name is James,
I am a community life pastor at a typical New England Church. A graduate of Gordon College with a BA in Christian Ministries (Youth and Pastoral) and Biblical studies as well as a graduate of Fuller Theological Seminary with a Masters of the Arts in Intercultural Studies (MAICS).
Originally from Brazil, I grew up in Massachusetts and have spent most of my years in and around New England. I love sports (especially soccer), playing games, cooking, discussing and reading Christian theology and context, and spending time with my wife Sarah.
I began this journey of exploring my faith and my understanding of the world while attending college. I was raised in a Baptist church and educated in a Calvinist system, all the while having strong connections to the Catholic Church as a Brazilian. Through my college experience I began to confront my upbringing and my education. I began to question how I could reconcile my faith with the worldview that I had. And so, I began to question everything and slowly dismantle and rebuild what I believed in and why I believed it. I began to look at, to read and experience my own historical belief as well as other’s and their own understandings, particularly minorities in the Church. I began to reshape my worldview, my view of God and myself. My faith became deeper and stronger as I recognized my own imperfections. This process has brought me here, to today. A non-denominational Community Life Pastor who can’t help but write.
My prayer and intention of writing this is to help educate, to help others explore their faith and to hear a different perspective on Christianity. It is my hope and my prayer that you grow in your faith, not that you agree with everything I say, but that you grow in your own understanding and ask yourself:
What do I believe and why do I believe it?
May God bless us as we begin this eternal journey together as brothers and sisters in Christ.
